Chiropractic Care/Chiropractic Biophysics

We provide advanced spinal correction utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic have we been able to provide the level of help and expertise that now exists. These newer correction methods are even safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. William Schneider has years of training and experience in spinal adjustment.

Dr. Schneider specializes in Chiropractic Biophysics adjusting.  This technique focuses on correcting problems related to patients posture. Chiropractic Biophysics is a widely used technique pf posture correction.  Its objective is to balance a person's posture, the body's essential framework, and allow for optimal functioning of the nervous system, which is laid out along that framework.  Dr. Schneider is one of six certified Biophysics  physicians in the state of Oregon.

Active Release Technique

What is Active Release Technique(ART)?

ART is a patented state of the art soft tissue system/movement based message technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.  Headaches, back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fascitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently  with ART.  These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.

How do overuse conditions occur?

Over-used muscles(and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions(pulls, tears, collisions,etc),
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area.  This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely.  As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis and nerves can become trapped.  This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain.  If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.

What is an ART treatment like?

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment.  The ART provider uses his hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.  Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

These treatment protocols-over 500 specific moves-are unique to ART.  They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient.  ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

What is the history of Active Release Technique?

ART has been developed, refined, and patented P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP.  Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients' symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand.  By  observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients problems.  He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger points are essentially knots in muscles, tendons, or ligaments.  These knots form in tissues which have been overused or injured due to an accident or surgery.  They can cause increased muscle tension, muscle shortening, pain, nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, and blurred vision.  Trigger point therapy is most effectively applied by chiropractors because of our detailed knowledge of the muscles and the nervous system.  Trigger point therapy is especially helpful for auto accident patients and sports related injuries.

Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises designed just for them to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction by as much as 30-40%. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.

Lifestyle Advice

We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to avoid aggravating their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most. We recognize that each our patient is a whole person, and help them reach true health and wellness is a collaborate effort between our professionals and our patients.
